Bus Routes
Travelling by bus is a cost effective and environmentally friendly way of getting out and about in your area and venturing further afield.
Hartlepool provides services operated by a number of different bus companies. You can buy a variety of different types of bus tickets, including single journey tickets, one-day, weekly or monthly tickets, or student and over 60 passes. Visit the traveline website or call 0871 200 22 33 or visit the connect tees valley website for more information. You can plan any journey, door-to-door, by bus or train or taxi etc. It also has walking routes (e.g. from your home address to the nearest bus stop).
Taxis
Taxis are licensed for immediate hire; you can get one at a rank, hail one in the street, or pre-book them.
Private hire vehicles, or minicabs, can only collect passengers who have pre-booked with a licensed operator. Hartlepool Borough Council is responsible for licensing taxis and minicabs and carries out checks to ensure the safety and suitability of the vehicles that are licensed. The licensing authority also ensures that vehicles are properly insured and that applicants are fit and proper to hold a license; this involves criminal record and medical checks, a local area knowledge test and a special driving test. Travelling by taxi or minicab is generally safe but you should not use a cab if the driver appears to be under the influence of alcohol, does not seem to know the area, or if the vehicle seems to be in a state of disrepair. If you have a problem with a driver’s behaviour or you believe a vehicle to be unlicensed, you should report it to Hartlepool Borough Council immediately.
