Concessionary Fares

About the Bus Pass Scheme:

  • The English National Concessionary Travel Scheme (ENCTS) gives free bus travel to people who qualify.

  • You can travel for free:

    • Monday to Friday: between 9:30am and 11:00pm

    • Weekends and bank holidays: all day

  • If you travel before 9:30am or after 11:00pm in Hartlepool, you pay 30p.

  • The pass does not work on private coaches or trains.

Who Can Get a Bus Pass? You can apply if you:

  • Are old enough to get a state pension

  • Have a disability that meets national rules, such as:

    • Blindness or poor eyesight

    • Severe hearing loss

    • No speech

    • Serious walking problems

    • No use of both arms

    • Learning disabilities

    • Cannot get a driving licence due to physical health (excluding drug/alcohol misuse)

What You Need to Apply:

  • If you have a disability:

    • Show proof like PIP or other benefits

    • If you don’t get benefits, explain your condition clearly

    • You might need a walking test

How Long Does the Pass Last?

  • Most passes last 4 years

  • They expire on your birthday

  • Some disabled passes may be shorter
