Stranded Traveller Emails

Sometimes you might get an email that looks like it’s from a friend or family member.

The message might say:

• they are stuck in another country

• they have lost their bags or someone has stolen them

• they need money to get home

This is not real. It’s a scam.

A scammer has broken into your friend’s email account and is pretending to be them.

They might ask you to send money using services like Western Union or Bid Cash. These are hard to trace, so once you send money, it’s gone.

What You Can Do

• try to call or message your friend or family member to check

• tell other people that the email is fake

• help your friend get their email account back
