Alice House Hospice exists to ensure people affected by life-limiting illness or the death of a loved one have the care, comfort and support they need. As the only adult Hospice in the Hartlepool and East Durham areas of the UK, our unique range of services makes a vital difference to the lives of thousands of families each year. Each patient is cared for by our Multi-Disciplinary Care Team and provided with a tailored package of care. The Hospice believes that every person, to the last moment of their life, has the right to dignity, respect, support and care and work to provide services that add value to life and make a difference to patients and their families. The Hospice offers a range of services including: Inpatient Services Specialist medical and nursing palliative care is provided by our Multi-Disciplinary Team for Symptom Control for pain or sickness, End of Life Care, psychological and emotional support for patients in Hartlepool, Stockton and East Durham. A respite bed is also available for stable patients who would benefit from a break in their routine. Alice House Hospice are unique in offering long term care beds in a small specialist setting, with full access to our Multi-Disciplinary Team. Patients bedrooms are single occupancy with en-suite facilities. The ethos of Alice House Hospice is providing a holistic approach to patients and their families in a homely environment with caring and skilled staff and home cooked food which meets the patients’ individual needs. Day Hospice - Wednesday Currently due to the COVID -19 Pandemic, Day Hospice has been suspended. This action has been taken to protect vulnerable patients who have been advised by the Government to shield. A telephone support service has been put into place to support existing patients with symptom control, psychological and emotional support to continue to improve wellbeing. As restrictions are being lifted and more people are receiving their vaccination, Alice House Hospice are developing a new Day Hospice Service. Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy Focussing on a patient’s ability to carry out the everyday tasks which are important and relevant to their health and wellbeing and to remain as independent as possible. Counselling & Support Services Providing bereavement and anticipatory grief counselling, our trained staff offer a place to be listened to and respected, while having the time to explore and make sense of your thoughts and feelings. A specialist Children’s Bereavement Service is also offered. Complementary Therapies Therapies designed to offer comfort, emotional support, relaxation and help to relieve symptoms. The therapies are used to complement the specialist medical and nursing care our patients may be receiving. Wellbeing Services We need to give ourselves a break, and a little downtime works well for almost everybody. It doesn’t really matter what the activity or inactivity is. The idea is to give your body, mind, and heart a chance to relax and recharge.
