BRIC: Building Recovery in Communities
Event description
Who we are...
> Tee
My name is Teigan (Tee ), I am an alcoholic in recovery, and alongside Katie, we run a peer support group for women in recovery called BRIC: building recovery in communities.
Our main goal was recovery in substance and alcohol misuse, but we aim to try to help anyone in any kind of recovery, including mental health.
We feel it is vital for women to have other women by their side to share stories of their growth and achievements in recovery.
And even if they feel they have achieved nothing yet, but their sobriety, or are just beginning to want their life back, we want to help anyone we can to enjoy life again.
Finding a group that works, finding life again, and finding a new me in the old me has been a massive help to my sobriety. All the tools, ideas, and things I have learnt along the way I want to be able to share them with women who feel like they are ready for the same.
I find it so rewarding and an absolute pleasure to be a part of the recovery community. Long may our strengths continue in all our journeys.
> Katie
Hello everyone, my name is Katie. I'm a mam of two wonderful humans, a daughter, sister, friend and an alcoholic in recovery.
I am passionate about the community that I grew up in and helping those members who are still suffering.
We (Tee & Katie) created BRIC: Building Recovery In Communities because we realised that we had so much experience between us of addiction, recovery, and different mental health issues.
We also understand the value of women supporting women and having a safe space to talk to another woman who has been where you are.
We offer you a confidential, safe place that is also fun and friendly.
Being around like minded people who will support you at any stage of your recovery journey is our promise.
What are the BRIC sessions about?
We aim to provide a safe, warm and nurturing environment for women in recovery from addictive behaviours to come, meet other ladies in recovery, and get the support they need to continue their journey.
We also support those seeking mental health support.
We feel it is vital for women to have a community of other women who understand them, to share stories with and to encourage their growth and achievements.
