Making bag puppets, changing weather pictures and 3D caterpillars are among the activities lined up by Hartlepool's libraries and community hubs to keep youngsters happy over the half term holidays.  All the events are free except where indicated and some must be booked in advance by contacting the relevant library.  Children under eight must be accompanied by an adult.

Middleton Grange and Counter Terrorism Policing North East have teamed up this New Year to launch a free course for shopping centre customers that will offer advice on how to tackle such threats in the community.  Taking place on Saturday 1 February, the workshop has been created specifically for the general public by the counterterrorism officers.

Each year the Northern Children's Book Festival runs a two week festival of book related activity working with schools and communities across the whole of the North East region.  Over the two weeks local library authorities deliver a programme of visits by authors, illustrators, poets and other storytellers.
