Health Insurance
If you live in the UK and travel to Europe, you might need a special card.
This includes trips to:
- EU countries
- Iceland
- Liechtenstein
- Norway
- Switzerland
You can use a card called the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).
It helps you get free or cheaper medical care if you get sick or hurt while you’re away.
You do not need the old E111 form anymore. That stopped in 2006.
The EHIC is free. You don’t have to pay for it.
To get one:
- Fill in a form online.
- The card will be sent to your home.
- It takes about 7 days to arrive.
You will need to give:
- Your full name
- Your date of birth
- Your NHS number or National Insurance number
You can apply on the EHIC website.
