How to Keep Safe from Anonymous Callers

Your home should be a safe place, but it is important to be careful with people who call at your door that you do not know.  

• keeping your doors locked and using a door chain before opening the door
• check who is there through a window, spy-hole, or by asking to see their ID
• contacting the company they claim to work for before letting them in
• asking them to return when a friend or family member can be with you 
• never signing forms or giving money to an unexpected caller 
• calling 999 if you feel threatened or unsafe 

• do not give out personal information or tell callers you are alone
• hang up if someone is abusive or tries to pressure you into buying something
• report repeated abusive calls to the police

If you are ever unsure about a caller, do not let them in. It is always better to be safe and ask for help or advice if needed.
