Local Welfare Support

Hartlepool Council has a small fund to help people who need support to live in the community.

Who can get help?

You might get help if you:

  • Have been homeless or sleeping rough

  • Are leaving hospital or prison

  • Are leaving a care home or supported housing

  • Are a victim of domestic abuse

  • Have permission to stay in the UK

This is not a full list. Other people may also get help.

What can you get?

The council may help with:

  • Basic household items (like a bed or fridge)

  • Things you need to settle into a new home

They do not help with:

  • Buying new things when moving house

  • Replacing broken items

Do you need to be on benefits?

No. You don’t need to be on benefits. But you must show that:

  • You really need help

  • Not getting help could make your health worse

You must also be allowed to get help from the government.
