Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction
You might be able to get money to help pay your rent or Council Tax. This help is called:

Council Tax Reduction (formerly Council Tax Benefit)
These are run by Hartlepool Borough Council, using rules from the Government.
Housing Benefit
Housing Benefit helps you pay rent if:

You don't have a job
-
You earn a low income
-
You already get other benefits
You can only apply for Housing Benefits if:

You and your partner (if you have one) are both old enough to get a State Pension

You live in temporary housing
-
You live in supported housing
If none of these apply, you need to apply for Universal Credit instead.

Council Tax Reduction
Council Tax Reduction helps you pay less Council Tax. You can apply if:

You own or rent your home

You are working or not working

You get benefits or have a low income
Your bill could be cut by up to 100%.
What you get depends on:

How many children live with you

If other adults live with you
