Discretionary Housing Payment

Sometimes, people need extra help to pay their rent. If you already get Housing Benefit or Universal credit but still can't afford your rent, you might be to get a Discretionary Housing Payment (DHP)

This is extra money from the council to help you. It's not part of your normal benefits.

The council only has a limited amount of money to give out each year. So, not everyone will get it. Each person's case is looked at on its own.
