Good Tenant Scheme

First you need a Good Tenant card, landlords will ask whether you have one. To apply, head to the Civic Centre and ask the reception. You will need to bring ID, National Insurance number and proof of address. Proof of address is a letter with your home address on it. The address for the Civic Centre is at the bottom of this page.

The Good Tenant scheme is a system that does background checks of adults. This is to check for any of the following:

  1. Anti-social behaviour / nuisance / disorder

  2. Criminal activity

  3. Rent arrears

  4. Damage to their property

  5. Tenancy abandonment

  6. Breach of tenancy

The aim is to reduce anti-social behaviour in the private rented sector. This is by providing landlords with information about a person's tenancy history. This is to help a landlord in deciding whether to offer someone a tenancy. Along with linking people to support to help them get and keep a property.
