The Heathers Day Centre (AKA Hartlepool Day Centre)

Some people find that the type of support which suits them best, is a service based in a particular building where activities are provided on site. These services are usually called day centres, and may be a good option for you if you struggle getting out on your own, and want to meet other people who are in a similar situation. If you have a diagnosis of dementia or memory problems, our day centres can provide friendship, mutual support and stimulation, as well as respite for carers.

The Hospital of God runs four day centres in Hartlepool, Horden, Seaham and Wheatley Hill, which have been specially designed to meet the needs of people with a diagnosis of dementia or memory problems.

These centres provide a safe, warm and welcoming environment where you can meet new people and enjoy a wide range of activities. We aim to help people continue to enjoy their interests, as well as exploring new hobbies. Activities we offer include arts & crafts, singing, dancing, quizzes, baking, cooking, playing board games as well as many other choices. It is up to you which activities you wish to be involved in. We also have regular trips out on our minibuses, which are always a highlight.

Staff in our day centres can also help you with personal care if you need this, and the centres have specially adapted bathrooms. Transport is provided via our minibuses, which can come and pick you up and drop you off at home.

Each day centre also has its own Carer Support Worker who can work with you, if you are a carer, around any issues that may arise. They also provide regular trips out and events for carers to meet up and socialise.

Monthly Memory Lane Cafes have been developed to provide a unique opportunity for people living with dementia to enjoy social activities together, in a safe environment with staff available. A variety of entertainment is provided including; guest speakers, tea dances, quizzes, snacks and refreshments.
