Befriending Service Volunteer
Job Provider
Cleveland Fire Brigade
Job summary
Research shows that loneliness and isolation can result in a decline in an individual’s physical and mental health which can result in risks to the individuals safety such as the inability to self-rescue in the case of a fire – if we can reduce loneliness and isolation we can increase safety and reduce risk. Cleveland Fire Brigade offers a Befriending Service to Hartlepool residents who are lonely and isolated, with the aim of fire prevention and promoting their health and welfare.
This is a fantastic opportunity to give something back to your community and support people who may struggle to access social groups on their own. Volunteer Befrienders provide support to lonely and isolated people by telephone and face to face contact, with the aim of building confidence to get out and about.
It’s also a chance for you to use your experience to support others, build on your skills and become part of our team of volunteers. Volunteers are vital to the successful delivery of our Befriending Service. Full training and support will be provided. The minimum time commitment is 1 hour per week.
Ideally, applicants will have experience of working and/or volunteering in a person-centred role, perhaps in health and social care, education, and social justice. It is essential that applicants live within travelling distance of Hartlepool.
Applicants will need to complete the 'Volunteer Registration Form', and if selected provide 2 references and a DBS check prior to an induction and safeguarding training. For more information go to https://www.clevelandfire.gov.uk/community/befriending-service/, or call the Befriending Service Coordinator on 01472 872311.
