Talk Money Week is from the Money and Pension Service (MaPS). It happens in the first week of November every year. This year it will be 3-7 November 2025
Talking about money is still a taboo. Many people find it difficult to open up about money worries. This stigma can stop people from getting the guidance and support they need.
If we talk about money, it makes a difference. It builds financial confidence and helps people take positive action. It helps them to be in control of their finances.
Being more money aware makes us better able to cope. We can be more prepared for income shocks, life events and whatever else the future throws at us.
A financially healthy nation is good for everyone. It is better for individuals, families, local communities, businesses and the wider economy.
This Talk Money Week we want organisations and people across Hartlepool to help us to start the conversation. We need to reduce the stigma. So, let's get talking together. Could your community talk about money that week?
The Hartlepool Mail will have a wraparound cover at the end of October. This will have details of local events during Talk Money Week.
VCSE Literacy Champion Training session on Wednesday 5 November, 9.30am to 12.30pm, at Central Hub, York Road.
In Hartlepool, one third of adults have a reading age of 9 - 11 years old and struggle to understand written information.
Literacy Champion training provides an awareness of local issues and arms participants with good practices to improve accessibility in the written word.
It enables them to leave feeling empowered and able to include positive steps to help with understanding as part their current daily workload. The training can be quite tailored to
the requirements of participants. It is friendly and informal. Participation and discussion are actively encouraged.
