Hospice
Alice House Hospice provides care and support to patients and families affected by life-limiting illness, or the death of a loved one in Hartlepool, Tees Valley and East Durham.
It costs £3.7m to fund these services for one year; the Hospice receives 34% of this in Government funding, leaving a shortfall of over £6,700 to be raised every single day.
Inpatient Unit (IPU)
Our IPU provides 24-hour specialist palliative care for people living with life-limiting illnesses, including cancer, organ failure and neurological conditions. Our Consultant-led multidisciplinary team delivers personalised, compassionate care in a calm and supportive environment.
We specialise in expert symptom management, holistic support for physical and emotional wellbeing and tailored nutrition to meet individual medical, cultural and religious needs.
Who can access this service?
Patients over the age of 18 who require end-of-life care, complex symptom management, including pain management, nausea and vomiting and psychological / wellbeing support.
Day Hospice
Day Hospice takes place every Thursday (10am–3pm) at our Holistic Wellbeing Centre. Through a 12-week programme tailored to individual needs, patients receive personalised symptom management, wellbeing support and access to our multidisciplinary team, while enjoying a light lunch and a relaxed, friendly environment.
Who can access this service?
People over 18 living with life-limiting illnesses. This includes patients with less advanced symptoms, enabling them to access peer support, socialisation, wellbeing and clinical support.
Counselling
Counselling / Support for patients who are being cared for in our Inpatient Unit or those who attend Day Hospice. This support extends to family members.
Community Bereavement Service
For over 18s in Hartlepool who have experienced the death of a loved one.
Complementary Therapies
Complementary therapies are available for patients receiving care on the IPU or attending Day Hospice.
24-hour Helpline
Alice House Hospice offers a 24-hour Helpline providing expert palliative advice, reassurance and practical support to patients, families, carers and healthcare professionals at any time, day or night.
Calls are answered by specialist Nurses and Doctors based at the Hospice, supporting people at home, in hospital or in other care settings and helping connect them quickly with the right services. For support, call 01429 855558.
