Who are we?
Artisans is a newly formed art and craft social hub created for the sole purpose of giving like minded people in the community the opportunity to express themselves through art and design. We are not looking for the next Banksy, or Antony Gormely, you do what you want when you want in your own time, we are not in competition with each other. The studio was set up predominantly for people suffering with mental health but with a view to eliminating the stigma associated with mental health we have made the studio open access to anyone wishing to join, it is a really happy and friendly environment in which to mix and share each others skills. The studio is open to all adults over the age of 18. Just come along and have a look, chat and a coffee/tea you will be more than welcome.
What do we do?
Well in between putting together some fantastic creations, we chat a lot, make a lot of tea and coffee, we share each others stories, experiences and skills, have more tea and coffee and get to know each other better, agree and disagree but most of all we have a lot of fun. We try to visit as many places of interest as possible i.e. the Biscuit Factory, The Baltic, Glass Factory, Beach Combing. The members do their own thing here when it comes to creating works of art and we all work at our own pace, we are not in competition with each other.
What is our aims and objectives?
One of the most important things to us at Artisan is it's ethos, this being a down to earth friendly atmosphere without external interference, we are answerable to no one other than our own group. The groups aims and objectives are minimal, all we ask for is a thriving studio with an aim of providing a really first class facility for the local community. All of our existing members are passionate and protective of what we have and what we have achieved in such a short space of time and we are proud to say that we have managed to put together a fully equipped are and craft studio.
At present Artisans is open Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and we will be looking at the rest of the week in due course. The studio has a capacity of 15-20 members at any one session. Whilst The Hartlepool Enterprise Centre is happy to have us here we will endeavourer to make Artisans a huge success.
