Service Description

Description of Service

The aim of the service is to provide a structured and robust screening and management of all TB cases to detect active disease quickly, identify those at risk and offer prompt screening to minimise cross infection and risk to others. We also reduce the risk of those considered vulnerable offering the BCG vaccination to a targeted population as outlined by NICE guidance no 33 and the Green Book HMSO.

Patients suspected of active TB are referred by Phycisians, GP's, Home Office, Immigration Service, Health Protection Agency or Assylum Induction Centres. Contacts of TB cases have open access and can refer themselves direct. The vaccination programme is an open access service with enquiries assessed and those that meet the criteria will be offered an appointment. Referrals are received directly from patients, practice nurse, GP, Midwives, Health Visitor and any other health professional.
