More About The Provider
Description of Service
Alice House Hospice exists to ensure people affected by a life-limiting illness or the death of a loved one have the care, comfort and support they need. As the only adult Hospice in the Hartlepool and East Durham areas of the UK, our unique range of services make a vital difference to the lives of thousands of families each year.
Each patient is cared for by our Multi-Disciplinary Care Team and provided with a tailored package of care.
The Hospice believes that every person, to the last moment of their life, has the right to dignity, respect, support and care and work to provide services that add value to life and make a difference to patients and their families.
The Hospice offers a range of services including:
A variety of Inpatient beds providing specialist palliative care for short term, long term and respite care. These services are all delivered by a specialist multi-disciplinary team adopting a holistic approach to care. All rooms come with ensuite facilities and operate 24/7.
Day Hospice - Wednesday
Providing specialist medical help in an outpatient environment to help control symptoms such as pain and sickness and to provide psychological and emotional support to improve wellbeing.
Day Care - Tuesday, Thursday & Friday
A Day Service providing social care for people in the local community, delivered in a relaxed, friendly environment in the Holistic Wellbeing Centre. A variety of activities are available and special events take place throughout the year.
Complex Needs Day Care
The Complex Needs Day Care runs from 9:30am - 4:30pm each Monday and follows the format of our already popular Day Care. The Complex Needs Day Care has one important difference; we accept referrals for people who have a complex health care need or multiple needs which cannot be managed in standard Day Care. Any medical conditions need to be relatively stable. We aim to reduce social isolation for patients and provide respite for carers by providing a safe environment and excellent care.
There will be a higher staff to patient ratio on these days with access to a registered general nurse at all times, medical review by a Nurse Practitioner can be arranged if required and a Complementary Therapist will be available to offer treatments free of charge. As is the case with our Day Care, lunch will be provided.
Examples of conditions which can be managed at our Complex Needs Day Care include: Diabetes, Epilepsy, COPD, Dementia (providing the patient is not compromised by being in a new environment), PEG feeds, Trachaeostomy, Mobility problems, MND, Anxiety
Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy
Focussing on a patient’s ability to carry out the everyday tasks which are important and relevant to their health and wellbeing and to remain as independent as possible.
Counselling & Support Services
Providing bereavement and anticipatory grief counselling, our trained staff offer a place to be listened to and respected, while having the time to explore and make sense of your thoughts and feelings. A specialist Children’s Bereavement Service is also offered.
Our highly trained Care Assistants offer support to patients and their families in their own home and the local community to help maintain their independence, support and bring reassurance and prevent isolation.
Therapies designed to offer comfort, emotional support, relaxation and help to relieve symptoms. The therapies are used to complement the specialist medical and nursing care our patients may be receiving.
