Oscars

Oscar Play Centre is provided by Hartlepool Borough Council. It opened in July 1993 and operates an inclusive scheme. Oscars operates from Rossmere Youth Centre in Rossmere Way Hartlepool and provides out of school care and children are collected from several local schools.

Oscars is registered for a maximum of 60 children at any one time. Children from the age of 3 years to 16 years attend the club.

Oscars opens 5 days per week, Monday to Friday all year round, excluding Christmas, Bank Holidays and some Personnel Development days. The hours of operation are 11.30am to 2.45 pm Nursery - 3pm to 6pm Afterschool - 8.00am to 5.45pm during school holidays.

There are currently 6 members of staff working with the children, including 4 playleaders, 1 Assistant Coordinator and 1 Coordinator The staff have the following relevant qualifications:

• Coordinator – Level 4 in children’s care, learning and development
• Assistant Co-ordinator – Level 4 in children’s care, learning and development
• 4 Playworkers – level 3 in playwork and children’s care, learning and development

All staff hold certificates in Paediatric first aid and level 2 food hygiene certificates. All staff have recently accessed child protection training. Other training that the staff have attended includes: equal opportunities, autism awareness, arts and crafts, managed behaviour, diversity, Team Teach (to support children in crises) etc.
