If you're a Hartlepool resident you could benefit from a warmer home and lower bills thanks to a free gas boiler replacement scheme from Warm Up North.
Households with old or inefficient gas boilers can have them replaced for free. The scheme is part of Warm Up North's commitment to making homes in the North East greener and warmer. Households may qualify for the scheme if they receive income related benefits such as Pension Credit, Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance or Universal Credit - and have an inefficient gas boiler.
An ageing, inefficient boiler can make it expensive and difficult for people to heat their homes. A new energy efficient boiler can save up to £215 a year and the spring and summer months are the ideal time to apply, before the winter sets in.
The scheme is open to anyone who qualifies, not just British Gas customers, and the company will do a free boiler survey to check eligibility. Both homeowners and private renters can apply.
Stuart Margerrison of Warm Up North said: "People in Hartlepool have the chance to get a low-cost efficient gas boiler and for many people it will be completely free.
"Anyone who receives income related benefits should contact us to find out more about how the scheme could help them be more energy efficient, keep warm and save money on their bills."
Councillor Kevin Cranney, Chair of Hartlepool Council's Regeneration Services Committee, said: "Living in a cold home can be very damaging to physical and mental health. Older people are at particular risk of health problems as a result of living in fuel poverty and I am delighted this scheme is available to help those most in need.
"You don't have to be a British Gas customer to qualify and I would encourage Hartlepool residents to see if they are eligible."
