A series of free events to support people living with dementia, their families and friends begins in Hartlepool this weekend with a community walk.
The Move a Memory Mile Community Walk takes place on Saturday 14th May and local people are being urged to take part.
The walk is part of a busy programme of activities put together by Hartlepool Council's Sport and Recreation Serice with a range of partners to mark Dementia Awareness Week (May 14-20).
Registration is from 9:30am and the walk which is designed to be accessible for all, starts at 10:30am. Starting at Tees and Hartlepool Yacht Club in the town's marina, walkers will head towards Seaton Carew via the promenade. There are three distance options - 1.5 miles, 3 miles and 4.5 miles.

All walkers will return to Tees and Hartlepool Yacht Club where they will be able to take part in a "Push the Boat Out" event, which includes sailing taster sessions accessible to all.
There will be a whole host of free activities and entertainment for the whole family. As well as the sailing taster sessions, there will be a chance to travel through time with the The Seatones who will be performing a range of songs from the early to mid-1990s, children will be able to take part in activities and games and refreshments will be available.

Car parking is limited around the yacht club so visitors should use the local street parking, local car parks and the Hartlepool Maritime Experience which has agreed for buses and vehicles to be parked there. Buses will be able to drop off participants at the yacht club before parking to ensure accessibility.
There will be a functional fitness activity session, plus information and support on vascular dementia, on Monday May 16 from 1--3pm at Brierton Sports Centre. It's a chance for people to take part in a movement MOT followed by activities designed to keep their bodies moving well for longer. A Nordic Walking taster session, plus information and support on frontal temporal dementia, will be held on Thursday 19th May from 1-3pm at Summerhill Country Park. The programme will conclude with a special event on Friday 20th May from 1-4pm at the Borough Hall to celebrate Hartlepool working towards being a dementia-friendly town.
