Safer Organisational Cultures & Self-Neglect

Self-neglect is an extreme lack of self-care, it is often associated with hoarding however may be a result of other issues such as addictions.

Could you spot the signs?

  • Poor hygiene
  • Alcohol and/or drug misuse/dependency
  • Dirty or inappropriate clothing
  • Refusal of care/health services and interventions

Alcohol and/or substance misuse can be a main factor in cases of self-neglect. In cases where the adult has care and support needs, a safeguarding response may be appropriate.
