Safe Families for Children matches volunteers with families in crisis to enable them to stay together and thereby reduce the number of children going into care. We need all sorts of volunteers, with all sorts of skills – even if it’s just a listening ear or a helping hand.

We are able to reach families right across the North East region and are currently working throughout: Darlington, Gateshead, North Tyneside, Redcar & Cleveland, Northumberland, Stockton and Sunderland.

Our results since we launched in the North East show that our work is rapidly becoming an important part of the wider landscape of help available for struggling families.

“My wife never had a friend before but she feels she’s got a friend now”, says Ahmed, one of our families supported.

“I know it is a very short time we’ve been introduced to the volunteer but we feel like we’ve known her for a long time. We feel like home every time she comes and children look forward to see her and so does my wife because she gets on with her really well.

“You guys all came into my life and you built my life back together. I don’t know what to say! I will just say, ‘Thank you very much for helping’.”

We are always looking for more friendly volunteers to help support families like Ahmed’s. If you’d be interested in a part-time volunteer role as a Family Friend or Host Family in the North East of England then please get in touch on 0191 707 0033!
