Here we are in sunny August, well until it starts raining again! I’ve been busy collecting snippets of information, some local, some not and I just hope you find them as interesting as I have?
Have you heard about the Disabled Identification Card (DID) which was launched recently? The idea behind the service is that it means that you don’t have to carry vast amounts of paperwork to evidence that you have a disability. I have my own thoughts on this, as I think that disabled people carry enough ‘labels’ already, however it might be something that you want to consider trying yourself? http://www.did-card.co.uk/
Do you remember the old saying ‘prevention is better than cure’? The Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) have produced a prototype ‘library’ where you can look at research, information and advice around areas of good practice that supports people in a different way in Adult Social Care.
Are you a disabled person who employs their own personal assistant? If yes, you have probably been contacted about the Pensions Regulator and your responsibilities in registering your staff in terms of their pensions. I’m trying to identify some easy read and accessible information about this issue and I will hopefully have more to tell you about in my next blog.
By the time this blog goes live ‘pools’ will have probably kicked off their new season and hopefully it is going to be a successful one! From past experience I know that some of the facilities at Victoria Park are not ideal for supporters who have a disability, however let’s hope the new regime take on board some of the ideas and recommendations put forward previously to make going to the match a better experience for supporters with a disability.
Some exciting news came recently when confirmation came that the NEW Centre for Independent Living has finally been given approval. Hopefully the new CIL will offer a one stop shop for disabled people in Hartlepool to access Information, Advice and Guidance and with weather permitting it should be ready by September 2016!

My wings are aching and the eagle has landed, see you next month!
