Age UK Teesside are seeking volunteer befrienders to visit older people living in Hartlepool who have been identified as lonely and/or socially isolated. Just one hour per week can make a very big difference to an older person's outlook on life and visibly improves their mental wellbeing.
"There is a really, important need for this service. Often people who may be older and isolated will use other public services and, the sad truth is, that loneliness is a killer. It leads to mental health issues." Anne Sykes, CEO, Age UK Teesside
As a volunteer, you will offer friendship to an older person aged 65+, which may include:
- Visiting them at home for a chat and a cuppa
- Assisting with small daily tasks
- Accompany clients for walks out
- Assist clients with trips to the shops
By donating an hour or two of your time each week you could offer companionship to an older person and make a huge difference in their lives.
If you are interested in becoming an Age UK Teesside Befriender, please complete the attached application form and email it to firstname.lastname@example.org
Alternatively, you can contact Lee Russell, Befriending Services Coordinator on 07808 306184.
