Gearing up for summer

Hartlepool Borough Council’s Sport and Recreation Service has announced details of its annual summer holiday activities programme and is urging young people in the town to act quickly or risk missing out.

Assistant recreation development officer Daniel Garthwaite said: “The programme has proved extremely popular in previous years and we're confident that this summer will be no different.

“We will try to accommodate as many people as possible, but the best way of guaranteeing your place on a particular activity is to book now.”

The programme runs from Monday 25 July to Saturday 3 September, and activities include football, mountain biking, racketball, street dance, archery, swimming, climbing, canoeing, basketball, table tennis, badminton, and junior weights.

Diffierence activities will be held in a variety of venues across the to, including Mill House Leisure Centre, the Headland Sports Halll, Summerhill, Carlton Outdoor Education Centre and Eldon Grove Tennis Club.

All of the activities are suitable for both boys and girls and all coaches are fully qualified and trained in first aid. “We would ask parents to ensure that their children wear appropriate clothing such as trainers, tracksuit, t-shirt, shorts and waterproofs. Children must be dropped off no earlier than 15 minutes before the session begins and picked up no later than 15 minutes after it finishes.

“Loads of fun is guaranteed for those taking part in activities, but we want to emphasise that we expect good behaviour. Swearing, bullying, not listening to the coach and other general misbehaviour will not be tolerated and will result in people being asked to leave sessions.”
