A fun October for the over-50s
A host of exciting and different activities are being held in Hartlepool next month to help older people to become and stay more active.
Aimed at the over-50s, the events are led by Hartlepool Council in partnership with NHS Hartlepool.
The activities are wide-ranging and include archery, watercolour painting, tea dances, aerobics, netball, healthy eating demonstrations, curling, a Curiosity Show at which people can examine artefacts from the Museum of Hartlepool, bird-watching, badminton and even a Big Dog Day for dog-lovers!
Steve Thomas, Hartlepool Borough Council's Lead Officer for Older People and Carers, said: "For older people in particular, continuing to exercise properly and frequently can reduce the risk of developing many of the diseases and conditions of older age and improve their overall wellbeing.
"We've lined up some great events to suit all tastes and we hope they will provide a springboard for people to adopt a more active approach to their lives."
The activities start on Friday 1 October - which is the United Nations' Older People's Day - and continue to the end of the month.
Heading the Older People's Day events will be a packed programme at the town's Hartfields Retirement Village, ranging from Wii Fit demonstrations, bulb-planting and boccia to a free raffle and a host of information stands on improving your health.
