Self-directed support
Self-directed support is a new system of social care. It puts people in control of the support they need to live their life as they choose.
People who can get social care support from Hartlepool Borough Council may have a Personal Budget or an Individual Budget to put them in control. This budget may be paid to them as a Direct or Indirect Payment. Social care staff help their clients to work out what their care needs are and what they can do to meet those needs, so that they can live happily and more independently.
Understanding self-directed support
In Control - a social enterprise that was set up to transform the social care system - have published a number of factsheets to explain self-directed support, individual budgets, personal budgets, direct payments and indirect payments. You can download the factsheets from the In Control website.
