Voting and elections
You can only vote in UK elections and referendums if you are registered to vote.
If you are not sure whether you are registered to vote
If you are registered to vote, your name will be listed on the electoral register. The electoral register is held by the electoral registration office at Hartlepool Borough Council - they can tell you whether or not you are registered to vote.
You can contact the electoral registration office by:

- Telephone: 01429 523017
Registering to vote
If you are not on the electoral register, you can join at any time throughout the year by completing a voter registration form.
You can download a voter registration form from either Hartlepool Borough Council or the About My Vote website.
Deciding who to vote for
If you are unsure who to vote for, the BBC's 'Where they stand' tool may help you. Simply choose an issue, such as crime, education, health or family, then compare what each political party says about that issue.
