MEND programme
The Mind, Exercise, Nutrition... Do it! (MEND) programme gives children aged 2-13 and their parents the knowledge and support they need to help get themselves fitter, healthier and happier. The programme is free, lots of fun, and it works.
MEND in Hartlepool
Hartlepool Borough Council is currently running a MEND programme for 7-13 year olds and their families. The programme runs for ten weeks, with two after-school sessions each week. Each session is two hours long and is split into two parts: in the first hour, the families learn about nutrition and motivation in interactive workshops. In the second hour, the parents join in an adult discussion while their children enjoy fun games and exercise.
The children are measured at the beginning of the programme and at the end of the 10 weeks. All children who complete the MEND programme are awarded with a certificate at a special celebration event.
The current programme is running at the Headland Sports Hall, Union Street. If you missed the beginning, don't worry: families can join in up to week 3 of the programme. If you're interested in taking part or would like to know more about MEND in Hartlepool, telephone 284352.
Younger children
The council is hoping to run a MEND programme for younger children, aged between 5 and 7 years. If you have a younger child you think would benefit from the MEND programme, telephone Hartlepool's community nutritionist on 284352.
